We just arrived back from the orphanage for our last visit with Jakob before heading back.
We had a WONDERFUL last visit! We started out in the smaller room that we were in the first day and then moved back to the larger room about 1/2 way through (as they were doing some sort of play with other kids in the larger room).
In the smaller room, he wolfed down another NutriGrain bar in no time...like he has never seen food before! He has figured out that when Wayne goes into the backpack, that is what he is getting.
When we got to the larger room, Jakob was on fire by then! Very comfortable with us and copying EVERYTHING we did. I was so hot that I wanted to take my shoes off. As soon as I did that, Jakob sat down and pointed to his shoes wanting me to take them off. So I did. Then, because he is so proud of his shoes...he wanted me to put mine back on (by handing each one to me) and then he handed me his shoes to put back on. We did this several times (as I kept getting so hot I couldn't stand it anymore). I also tried just pushing my sleeves up one time for relief...and of course...he did the same! It was so cute!
The other family we had in the room with us this morning came in towards the end. Since the little girl was sitting in the mom's lap, Mian kept coming over and sitting in my lap. Later, the other girl and Mom started to crawl across the floor....who can guess what Mian did then??? Yes, he started crawling across the floor! I'm starting to worry that when he comes home, he'll start howling like a beagle in no time!!!! The other funny thing that happened was the mom went into her bag to get something out, so Mian walked over to her to see what she was getting. We worked out that he was looking to see if she had one of those NutriGrain bars....once he saw it was just toys, he was like "hum."
Needless to say, when the door opened at 6 with one of his caregivers, he was ready to go...as that meant supper time for him. We both gave him big hugs and kisses goodbye and also left the bear and photo album we made him (hopefully it will stay with him...otherwise, there will be some other lucky kid getting to look at our faces all the time...ha ha).
It has not quite hit me yet that we won't get to see him for another month or so, but I'm sure it will either tonight or tomorrow as we leave.
We will use this blog for our next trip as well, so it will continue to be here for those of us that need a little Jakob fix every once in awhile.
We'll be arriving back on Thursday night with Rachael, Rohan and Mackenzie arriving on Saturday, so that will be a wonderful Christmas for us to have them with us!
Thanks again, everyone, for all of your love and support.
Merry Christmas everyone and have a safe New Year!
Love, Courtney, Wayne, and Jakob

I knew you were going to make my cry again before you left. I feel like I'm leaving him, too, because we will have no updates until you return. I definitely will need a "Jakob fix" from time to time, so I know I will visit his page often. I'm just so glad your last visit was a good one. From everything you have observed since being there, Jakob seems to be a happy little boy, very smart, and being well taken care of which is a such a blessing. I know that makes it a little easier to leave. Thank you again for being so diligent in posting updates, photos, and videos. I did look at the Kodak Gallery photos and they are so great! Courtney & Wayne, I love you both so much and appreciate you sharing your experience!! Mom/Pam
Dearest Courtney and Wayne,
We went through our own version of depression last night, realizing that Jakob's Story is: "To Be Continued..." Although we will miss the daily postings, we'll try to take comfort in knowing the Adoption Train is chugging down the track, and someday soon this sweet little boy will live his happy life under the same roof as you! Meanwhile, you could use this time to stockpile your kitchen cupboards with Nutrigrain Bars!
All Our Love,
Christi, Larry, and Autry Girl
This is why I keep checking even after you said it was your "final posting," because it wasn't really. I just noticed another video and two more photos that weren't up there when I made my first comment. Like I said, I will continue to check "Jakob's Page" just to see how precious you all are together. I did see a small hint of Wayne's "top body" dance in the first video, but not enough to count. Wayne, maybe you can practice it during the next month and when you see Jakob for the 2nd visit, give us a little more action. Then on your 3rd visit to bring Jakob home I expect that you both will be doing the "happy dance" along with Jakob. That will be a glorious day!! Have a safe trip home. I love you, Mom/Pam
I have been like Mom, checking every hour throughout the day for new updates. Of course, I was home sick on the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday, so that was easy to do, but today I went back to work. Coming home to find 3 new postings, videos, photos, etc., to go through...I felt so behind! I enjoyed having so much new information at once, though, and I'm so glad you feel that you had really meaningful visits with Jakob, so you can go home knowing a connection has been established. I will miss Jakob and these postings, and I know you will miss him terribly until your next visit. (My guess is that he will really miss the two of you as well, but I'm sure his caretakers will be sure to explain to him regularly what is happening, and that you are coming back soon.) Luckily, the holidays usually make time fly - hopefully that will hold true. Have a safe trip home, and thank you again for sharing this all with us. Love to you both - Stephanie
Well Courtney and Wayne, for all the interesting and far away places you have travelled in your lives, this trip is probably going to be the most memorable of your lives. And how funny that you were almost going to consider a contract working in Russia - you were obviously meant to go there for some reason and this is it. You have a son now. And it is going to feel like a long wait, like a pregnant woman in her last few weeks of pregnancy. You are so ready for the baby to be there! And then suddenly you have a home where this new little person has just taken over!!! And your's is already going to know how to talk back... in another language. Just kidding. But you know when Mian is finally at your home you're going to say how in some strange way the time has flown. Now you have a few weeks to really get prepared and really enjoy some quiet nights alone - just the two of you. Make the most of it. Still praying that everything goes as planned from this point forward. He deserves to be with you as soon as possible.
WOW -- this is awesome. I just read through everything and I am so sad that I missed reading it daily. You are already home by now.. I think your friends are coming today! Have a wonderful wonderful Christmas this year.. I know it's hard to be without your son.. but it won't be long. AND i'm so glad he is well taken care of in the meantime.
